Harrison, Arkansas-The Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District (NWAEDD) hosted its annual Park Grant Workshop, bringing together city, county, and community leaders from across the area to explore new opportunities for improving outdoor recreation, expanding park amenities, and strengthening local trail systems. NWAEDD partnered with Harrison Parks & Recreation to host the event in the Arvest Room at the Creekside Community Center.

The workshop centered on helping communities better understand the funding opportunities available through the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. NWAEDD staff provided a detailed overview of three major park grant programs, including guidance on eligibility, funding requirements, and considerations for communities as they prepare grant applications.

Grant Programs Discussed Included:

• FUN Park Grant Program: Focused on assisting communities with the development or enhancement of community parks and recreational spaces.

• Matching Grant Program: Development of outdoor recreation facilities and land acquisition through a shared investment model.

• Trails for Life Grant Program: Development of new walking trails, expansion or renovation of existing walking trails, trail signs and markings if included as part of a construction or renovation project.

Designed specifically for cities and counties, the workshop offered space for interactive discussion and questions, allowing participants to engage in direct dialogue with NWAEDD staff about potential projects in their communities. Attendees explored ways to leverage state funding to create sustainable outdoor spaces for their residents.

“We appreciate the strong turnout, and the commitment local leaders continue to show for improving parks and recreation resources across our region,” said Jeremy Ragland, NWAEDD Deputy Director. “These grants play a key role in supporting healthy, vibrant communities, and we’re proud to help guide applicants through the process.”
