HARRISON, ARKANSAS — The Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District (NWAEDD) celebrated a collaborative regional achievement with the opening of North Arkansas College’s Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Innovation (CRMI).
The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, hosted in partnership with the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce, was held in September 2025. Community members, industry partners, and local leaders attended to tour the facility and learn more about how it will shape the region’s high‑tech workforce.
NWAEDD played a central role in bringing the project to fruition by assisting North Arkansas College in applying for and administering $2 million in federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant funding. This investment supported the construction of an advanced training hub designed to prepare students for careers in robotics, electronics, and advanced manufacturing.
“Supporting projects like CRMI is at the heart of our mission,” said NWAEDD Executive Director, Joe Willis. “This project will ensure that North Arkansas College has the resources to deliver cutting‑edge training that benefits students, employers, and the future economy of our region.”
Designed by Risley & Associates of Fort Smith and built by Clark Construction, the $10 million CRMI facility includes:
Three specialized laboratories for robotics, manufacturing, and electronics
Three modern classrooms
A collaborative Maker Space that encourages hands‑on learning, creativity, and innovation
North Arkansas College President Dr. Rick Massengale described the building as a transformative addition for both the college and the region’s workforce, underscoring how the facility aligns training programs with today’s industry needs.
Funding for the project included:
$3 million from the State of Arkansas
$2 million in federal EDA grants (secured and administered with NWAEDD’s assistance)
$700,000 from the Boone County Economic Development Committee
$100,000 from the City of Harrison for equipment
$4.1 million from North Arkansas College
NWAEDD recognizes the project as a significant long‑term investment in workforce development and economic growth, strengthening the region’s capacity to support industries.
