Huntsville, Arkansas — The City of Huntsville recently completed a worthy public safety project made possible through a $98,726 grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s Division of Rural Services. The project strengthened the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team, the only team of its kind in Madison County.

The Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District (NWAEDD) proudly partnered with the City throughout this effort, assisting with writing and submitting the grant application to secure the funds, and helping administer the project from start to finish. NWAEDD is honored to support the community in expanding its emergency response capacity.

The grant, awarded in spring 2025, funded essential equipment including a Toyota Tacoma configured for rescue response, a rescue boat with trailer and motor mount, an all‑terrain outboard motor dolly, and a Polaris UTV. These additions greatly enhance the department’s ability to navigate difficult terrain and respond quickly during water‑related emergencies. The project was completed by the end of 2025.

NWAEDD extends sincere appreciation to Mayor Travis Dotson, Fire Chief Kevin Shinn, and every member of the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department. Their leadership, cooperation, and commitment were vital to the success of this project. More importantly, their dedication to serving and protecting the people of Huntsville and the surrounding area is deeply valued. NWAEDD also offers special thanks to Senator Bryan King and Representative James Eaton for supporting the project.

Because of this investment and the hard work of Huntsville’s first responders, residents across the fire district and neighboring communities will benefit from faster, safer, and more effective emergency water rescue services, especially during severe weather and flooding events.
