Waste Electronics Disposal

Electronics Waste (also known as "E-Waste") is a growing problem in Northwest Arkansas, as in most other places. What do we do with all those computers, monitors, TVs, stereos, radios, microwaves, cell phones and other electronic items when they are worn out, used up, or simply discarded?

The BAD NEWS is that many electronic items contain hazardous materials (including lead) which can contaminate the environment, so continuing to dispose of them in the household trash, where they ultimately wind up in the land fill, is an option that cannot last much longer -- in fact, many landfills around the country already prohibit E-Waste!

The GOOD NEWS is that there are now companies that specialize in "de-constructing" used electronic devices and recovering the valuable materials they contain, from the metals to the plastics! It's important for our citizens to help protect our environment by keeping potentially hazardous electronics waste from entering the waste stream.

What can you do? RECYCLE!  Simply contact your nearest recycling center, and ask for the details about when and where to bring electronic waste.  A list of Northwest Arkansas Recycling Centers can be found here.
