The North Arkansas Transportation Service (NATS) is dedicated to helping the citizens of our service area become more mobile.  Low cost transportation services of various types are provided in the service area comprised of nine counties:  Baxter, Boone, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Newton, Searcy, and parts of Carroll and Madison Counties.

NATS operates four different services, varying in the several counties in our service area.  These services can be generally described as follows:

Deviated Fixed Route Service

Operating as a system of vans in the City of Mountain Home in Baxter County, and as a system of Trolleys in the City of Harrison in Boone County, NATS vehicles operate on generally-fixed routes and schedules in both cities, with slight deviation from these schedules on individual request.  Fares are only $1.00 per boarding, which means passengers can travel to almost any location in the city, and then travel home again, on a very generous repetitive schedule throughout the day, for only one dollar.

"Dial-A-Ride" Service  (Based on Demand)

These services are provided to the general public on a specific request basis, and in most cases, require 24 hours advance notice for scheduling.  The service provides personal, convenient and affordable transportation for citizens in and around the cities of Harrison and Mountain Home in Boone and Baxter Counties.  In most cases, vehicles are wheelchair accessible.  Services are available for handicapped persons and the general public, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  Special arrangements may be made for trips at times other than the scheduled hours, if circumstances warrant.

Commuter Service

This service can best be described as a "subscription service."  When 8 or more passengers need a ride on a continuing, scheduled basis, and a suitable, willing, qualified volunteer driver is assigned, a route may be established in one of our service areas to provide affordable transportation service for commuters to specific locations on a continuing basis.

Presently two such commuter routes exist in the NATS Service Area.  One provides transportation for employees to Baxter Labs in Baxter County, picking up citizens in Izard, Fulton and Baxter Counties to work in Mountain Home.  The other route provides transportation to workers at Tyson's in Berryville, for citizens of Carroll and Boone Counties.

Contract Service

NATS also provides transportation for special needs and occasions on an individual contract basis, including transportation to summer day care services for seniors, and for the developmentally disabled.  Currently, such contracts are in effect in the cities of Berryville in Carroll County, and Harrison in Boone County.  Contact Joanna Cartwright at the NATS Main Office in Harrison, at (870) 741-8008 for more information, or to discuss establishing a contractual route for your organization.
