The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) is a federal-state partnership serving a 240-county/parish area in an eight-state region. Led by a Federal Co-Chairman and the governors of each participating state, the DRA is designed to remedy severe and chronic economic distress by stimulating economic development and fostering partnerships that will have a positive impact on the region’s economy. The DRA helps economically distressed communities to leverage other federal and state programs which are focused on basic infrastructure development and transportation improvements, business development, and job training services. At the local level, the DRA coordinates efforts with a combination of agencies. Assisting the DRA are Local Development Districts (LDD's), regional entities with a proven track record of helping small municipalities, counties and parishes improve basic infrastructure and stimulate growth. The DRA also partners with USDA's Rural Development Administration (RDA). Through their network of state and local offices, the RDA assists the DRA not only with project evaluation criteria for proposed projects, but with the administration of projects as well. Additionally, the DRA works with each member state’s Department of Economic Development.
